The Cerritos College men's tennis team concluded their South Coast Conference regular season with an 8-1 win over visiting El Camino College on Thursday. The win by the conference champion Falcons put them at 5-1 in the SCC and 10-9 overall. They will now host Palomar at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday in a non-conference match.

In the win over the Warriors, Cerritos bounced back from a lackluster performance against Glendale College two days earlier and won all six singles matches, with five of them sweeps. Freshman Nathan Eshmade (Kings Baptist HS, Australia) continued his dominance with a 6-0, 6-1 win, while both freshman Mathew Espiritu (Long Beach Millikan HS) and sophomore Todd Jenkins (Cabrillo HS) each lost just three games in the top half of the ladder.

Freshman Julian Avila (Paramount HS) overcame a 3-6 first set loss to Josh Legarary, and responded with a 6-3 win of his own to force a tie-breaker, which he won, 10-6. The duo of freshmen Maurice Grijalva (Gardena HS) and Gianni Jeong (Cerritos HS) each won their matches by 6-2, 6-3 scores.

Eshmade and Espiritu teamed for an 8-4 win in doubles, while Jeong and Avila earned the eighth win for the team with an 8-3 victory. Sophomore Kevin Wall (Lakewood HS) and freshman Juanantonio Diaz de leon (El Rancho HS) saw action in the #3 doubles match, but were defeated, 8-0.
