After winning four of the six singles matches against host El Camino College on Tuesday, the Cerritos College men's tennis team finished off with a sweep of doubles to post a 7-2 South Coast Conference win. The Falcons improved to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play and will now travel to Saddleback College for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference match on Thursday.

In the two singles matches they did lose, Cerritos extended the Warriors to a third set, as freshman Mathew Espiritu (Long Beach Millikan HS) dropped a 6-3, 5-7, 3-10 in the #2 position to Sergio Guerra, while freshman Julian Avila (Paramount HS) was defeated in the #4 spot, 7-5, 1-6, 5-10.

Freshman Nathan Eshmade (Kings Baptist HS, Australia) continued to play well at the top and improved to 12-1 on the season with his 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Anthony Ya. Sophomore Todd Jenkins (Cabrillo HS) handled Eric Sanders in the #3 position, 6-2, 6-1, while freshman Gianni Jeong (Cerritos HS) earned a much-needed win, 6-4, 6-0. Freshman Maurice Grijalva (Gardena HS) finished off singles play with a 7-6(5), 6-2 victory for the Falcons.

In doubles action, Eshmade and Espirtu improved to 7-3 on the year, but had to fight back after dropping the first set before winning, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7, while the other two doubles teams won handily in straight sets.
