M. Tennis: Conference opens with shutout win

Starting to gain momentum as the season progresses, the Cerritos College men's tennis opened Western State Conference East Division play with a 9-0 shutout win over El Camino College. The Falcons (4-1, 1-0), winners of three matches in a row, will travel to Victor Valley College next Thursday for another conference match.

Doubles play netted three team points for Cerritos, which included an 8-0 win in the #2 spot from freshman Arthur Toledo (Goliath Academy, FL) and sophomore Bruno Duarte (Centro Educacional Rogêdo, Brazil), while the #1 pair of freshman Lucas Legrand (Marie, France) and sophomore Jan Simon (Gymnasium Auf Der Karthause, Germany/Cypress College) posted an 8-1 victory.

The Falcons also won all six singles matches in straight sets, which included a 6-0, 6-0 shutout for Toledo in the #1 position. Only dropping one game, freshman Stevan Quintanar (Cerritos HS) posted a 6-0, 6-1 win in the #5 spot, while the duo of Duarte and sophomore Tomas Bella (Colegio Mallinckrodt, Argentina/Cypress College) surrendered just a pair of games.
