M. Track & Field: Team finishes in a close third at four-way meet

The Cerritos College men's track and field team was just four points shy of overtaking Sacramento City College in a four-way meet on Saturday. The Falcons finished with 131 team points, with host Mt. San Antonio College coming in first place with 180 points, while the Rams had 135 points and fourth place American River College wound up with 79 points. Cerritos will split their squad this weekend, with the throwers attending the Santa Barbara Invitational on Friday, while the remainder of the squad will be at the Cal State Northridge Invitational.

Sophomore Dionbrea Norris (Long Beach Millikan HS) won a pair of events for the Falcons, while freshman Ignacio Rodriguez won an event. The Falcons also took second in four other events on the day. For Norris, his clearance of 2.05 meters in the high jump won the event and put him tied for fifth on the school's all-time list. In fact, four of the top five finishers on the day were from Cerritos, with freshmen Adam Aguirre (Cantwell HS) placing second at 2.00 meters, Lenin Dolmos (Downey HS) in third at 1.85 meters and Aaron Martin (Carson HS) clearing 1.80 meters to come in fifth place.

Norris easily defeated the field in the long jump with a distance of 7.20 meters, while Rodriguez was fifth at 6.29 meters. It was a jump of 14.16 for Rodriguez that won the triple jump with an abbreviated field, while Aguirre placed second in the javelin with a throw of 49.55 meters. In the discus, it was freshman Bobby Villegas (Bell Gardens HS) who led the team, as he came in second place with a toss of 42.70 and added a fifth place in the shot put at 11.58 meters. Freshman Stephen Moore (Paramount HS) tied for fifth place at 4.19 meters in the pole vault.

In running events, freshman Craig Jones (Long Beach Jordan HS) finished in second place with a time of 22.15 with freshman Elisha Toler winning his heat of the 800 meters in 1:59.25, which put him fourth overall. Freshman Miguel Figueroa (Washington Prep HS) was a close sixth overall in a time of 1:59.50. Martin also competed in the 110-meter HH and came in fourth place with a time of 16.20, with freshman Jason Iles (Long Beach Poly HS) finishing in a time of 17.09 to place sixth.
