M. Track & Field: Falcons setting up for final meet before post-season

In one of their final meets before they embark on the South Coast Conference Prelims, the Cerritos College men's track and field team competed in the Mt. San Antonio Relays on Saturday. The Falcons, who will be serving as the host of the Beach Invitational this weekend, recorded some strong results at Mt. SAC.

In the high jump, freshman Adam Aguirre (Cantwell HS) defeated the entire field with a clearance of 2.08 meters, while sophomore Dionbrea Norris (Long Beach Millikan HS) captured the long jump when he recorded a distance of 7.12 meters to beat out all of the competition. Aguirre also took part in the javelin and placed eighth with a distance of 51.68 meters.

The Falcons also did well in several running events, especially distance races. Freshman Omar Torres (Warren HS) placed sixth in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:19.05, while freshman Elvis Salinas (Norwalk HS) was ninth with a clocking of 15:41.60. As for sophomores DeShaunte Lewis (Long Beach Poly HS) and Thomas Poston (El Dorado HS), they ran shoulder to shoulder in the 1500 meters and came in fifth and sixth places, respectively, with Lewis (3:59.39) edging Poston (3:59.73). Freshman Jonathan Bazinet (California HS) earned a sixth place in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.17, while Lewis took 10th in a time of 1:56.88.

The duo of sophomores Brandon Taylor (Mayfair HS) and Joe Magana (Cantwell HS) also paced each other in the 3000-meter steeplechase and finished in fifth and sixth places, respectively. Taylor crossed the finish line in 9:48.32, with Magana touching up in 9:48.57.
