M. Track & Field: Cerritos ties for 16th place at state championships

Competing in the 3C2A State Championships at Saddleback College over the weekend, the Cerritos College men's track and field team compiled 12 team points and tied for 16th place. The Falcons, who had three entries in the championships, scored points in all three events. They tied for 16th place with Golden West College and Hartnell College and were just two points behind South Coast Conference foes El Camino College and Long Beach City College.

Sophomore hurdler Juan Ward (Paramount HS), who set the school record in the event back in 2015 (14.15), came in second place on the day with a time of 14.33. He was only bested by El Camino's Anthony Taylor, who was clocked in 14.12.

In the 4x400-meter relay, the quartet of Jordan Crowdus (Cabrillo HS), Caleb Dunomes (Long Beach Poly HS), Konnor Handy (St. John Bosco HS) and Elijah Jones (Long Beach Jordan HS) turned in a sixth place time of 3:15.61 and were edged out by Moorpark College, who finished in fifth place in 3:15.28. 

Freshman Joshua Melendez (St. Paul HS) competed in the 1500 meters and recorded a personal best time of 3:54.44m which earned him an eighth place finish. He just missed out on finishing one place higher by Jacob Christopher of Lake Tahoe College, who crossed the finish line in 3:54.31.
