Serving as the hosts for the Southern California Championships, the Cerritos College men's track & field team finished in a tie for seventh place with 22 team points. The Falcons tied with South Coast Conference opponent Long Beach City College, while another conference foe, Mt. San Antonio College, came in first place. The team will be sending three individual entries, as well as one of their relay teams to the 3C2A State Championships, which will take place next weekend at Saddleback College.

The top four finishers with State A Standard times in lane events have advanced, while a fifth spot will advance depending on the faster time between the South and North. In the distance races and field events, the top six with State A Standards also advance.

Cerritos will be sending three individuals, as well as a relay team to the state championships. Sophomore Juan Ward (Paramount HS), who set the school record in the 110-meter HH (14.15) back in 2015, posted a second place time on Friday with a clocking of 14.40. It's the third best time in the state this season. Distance runner Joshua Melendez (St. Paul HS) turned in the eighth fastest time in the state in the 1500 meters at 3:56.45, which was good enough for fourth place in the race.

The quartet of Jordan Crowdus (Cabrillo HS), Caleb Dunomes (Long Beach Poly HS), Konnor Handy (St. John Bosco HS) and Elijah Jones (Long Beach Jordan HS) will also represent the Falcons at the state championships in the 4x400-meter relay time of 3:16.93 was good for third place in the day. 

Daniel Chavez (Los Alamitos HS) has qualified in the hammer, as his distance of 44.39 meters earned him a sixth place finish.
