Competing in the Ron Kamaka Combined Events Challenge at Mt. San Antonio College, two of the four Cerritos College men's track and field athletes finished in the top eight. That pair, Luke Johnson and Logan Smith (Valencia HS), both reached the state's A Standard in combined points, which is a good precursor for the Southern California Decathlon Championships, which will take place at Cerritos on April 1-2.
Johnson finished in seventh place out of the 15 entries with 5526 total points, while Smith was right behind in eighth place at 5433 points. The other two Falcons who competed included Roman Sanson (Downey HS), who placed 12th with 5124 points, while Jacob Begay compiled 4598 points, which put him in 14th place.
The top finish for any of the four was in the javelin, where Johnson topped the field with his distance of 47.18 meters. He secured 547 points in the event. As for Smith, he secured a pair of third place finishes in the long jump (6.58 meters) and 110-meter HH (15.93). He earned him 716 points toward his total in the long jump, while he picked up 741 points in the 110-meter HH.
