On Friday, the Cerritos College men's cross country team earned a fifth place finish at the Brubaker Invitational. Competing at Irvine Regional Park, the Falcons compiled 147 team points, with their fifth place finish the highest of the season. The team will be traveling to Oregon next Saturday to run in the Lewis and Clark Invitational.

Placing 16th out of the 94 runners on a hot, muggy day was Carlos Mendoza (Highland HS), who posted a time of 22:34.6 over the four-mile course. Not far behind was Faustino Diaz (Warren HS) with a 20th place finish in a time of 22:42.9, and was the second finisher in a pack of three runners that finished the race at nearly the same time. Next Falcon runner was Ricardo Cano (Schurr HS) with a 32nd place time of 23:22.6, with Erick Ayala (Downey HS) clocking a time of 23:34.3, good for 40th place overall.

The fifth runner to lock up the team score was Daniel Garcia (Whittier HS), and finished in 44th place when he crossed the finish line in 23:48.4. Cerritos had 12 total runners competing on the day and others included Ryan Lopez (Montebello HS; 24:32.8; 56th place), Joshua Reinis (Kennedy HS; 24:44.4; 59th place); Didier Pina (Schurr HS; 24:59.0; 64th place); Alejandro Rios (Chino HS; 24:59.0; 65th place); Diego Munoz (Paramount HS; 25:28.8; 70th place); Diego Del Carmen (Huntington Park HS; 26:41.6; 80th place) and Steven Anker (Gahr HS; 27:08.2; 83rd place).
