At the South Coast Conference Championships on Friday, the Cerritos College men's cross country team finished in third place. The Falcons, who finished with 84 team points, trailed Mt. San Antonio College, who had the first five finishers, and El Camino College, who posted 56 team points. Next Friday, the team will travel to Mission Bay Park in San Diego for the Southern California Championships. They ran that course early in the season at the SoCal Preview Meet, where they took 11th place.

Running the four-mile course at Columbia Park in Palos Verdes, Cerritos had the first runner other than a Mt. SAC athlete to complete the course. Freshman Carlos Mendoza (Highland HS) came in seventh place overall with a time of 23:15.5 The Mounties saw their first five runners turn in times under 23:00 minutes.

A little over a minute later, freshman Ricardo Cano (Schurr HS) crossed the finish line in 24:22.1 to earn 19th place overall, while freshman Isaiah Marshall (Carson HS) was right behind in 21st place when he turned in a time of 24:28.9. A pair of Falcons finished 25th and 26th overall to round out the team's scoring. Freshman Erick Ayala (Downey HS) recorded a time of 24:38.4, with sophomore Alejandro Rios (Chino HS) concluding the course in 24:43.9.

There were 12 other Falcons that competed in the conference championships, with the team's top 10 consisting of Joshua Reinis (Kennedy HS; 24:53.3; 29th place); Anthony Lopez (Downey HS; 25:41.6; 40th place); Faustino Diaz (Warren HS; 25:54.9; 41st place); James Yanez (Long Beach Wilson HS; 26:02.8; 42nd place) and Diego Munoz (Paramount HS: 26:31.9; 45th place).
