M. Cross Country: Men's team earns eighth place at meet

On Saturday, the Cerritos College men's cross country team finished in eighth place at the Lewis and Clark (OR) Invitational. Of the 11 schools that participated in the 8K race at McIver Park, the Falcons concluded with 196 team points and held off two other schools who were just 18 points behind them. In two weeks, the team will compete in the South Coast Conference Championships at Columbia Park in Palos Verdes.

The first runner to finish for Cerritos was freshman Faustino Diaz (Warren HS), whose time of 26:33.4 put him in 31st place out of 126 runners. He was followed closely by freshman Carlos Mendoza (Highland HS), who was in the middle of a pack of eight runners and finished in a time of 26:49.3 The tail end of that group consisted of freshman Anthony Lopez (Downey HS), who was clocked in 26:57.4, which put him in 44th place.

Keeping a tight pack of runners together, sophomore Alejandro Rios (Chino HS) finished the course in 27:22.7, which put him in 56th place, while Isaiah Marshall (Carson HS) rounded out the top five runners for the team score with his 64th place time of 27:36.6.

Also competing for Cerritos on the day were Ricardo Cano (Schurr HS; 70th place; 27:45.2) and Joshua Reinis (Kennedy HS; 79th place; 27:56.3).
