It wasn't their best performance of the season by any nature, but the Cerritos College women's basketball team posted a 57-23 win over host San Bernardino Valley College on Wednesday. The Falcons (4-2), who shot just 25% from the field and were just 1-of-14 from three-point range, limited the Wolverines to single-digit points in each of the four quarters. The team will now travel to West College Angeles College on Friday for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game.

Several areas where Cerritos did perform well were on defense, as they pulled down 57 rebounds and forced 36 turnovers, which resulted in 26 steals. Every player recorded at least three rounds, with sophomore Therese Zekajj (Legacy HS) posting a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding three assists.

The Falcons opened up an 11-0 lead to start the game and it was a 15-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter. A pair of Ilani Avila (Downey HS) free throws, along with an Izabella Apodaca (La Serna HS) layup made it a 19-1 advantage midway through the second quarter. Cerritos took a 27-8 lead into halftime and opened the second half with a pair of Zekajj baskets, along with a jumper from Precious Yerena (Downey HS), which made it a 33-8 lead. By the end of the game, all nine players got on the scoreboard, with three of them posting double figures in points.

Along with Zekajj, Avila (seven rebounds, three steals) and freshman Ashley Miller (Paramount HS), who had 10 points, seven steals, five rebounds and three assists all scored in double digits. Apodaca produced eight points, six steals, four rebounds and three assists, while Yerena ended with six points, six rebounds and five steals.
