After the first day of the CCCAA State Wrestling Championships, Cerritos College saw six of their 12 entries win both of their matches to advance to the semifinals. The Falcons, who sit in third place in the team standings, also have three wrestlers in the consolation rounds, as the championships are being held at West Hills-Lemoore College. Cerritos has compiled 92.5 team points and trail frontrunner Fresno City College (120.5 team points) and conference opponent Mt. San Antonio College with 96 team points.

Those who have advanced to the semifinals include freshman 133-pound Anthony Pereyra (Lakewide HS), freshman 141-pound Mario De La Torre (Temescal Canyon HS), sophomore 149-pound Felix Osorio (Santa Fe HS), sophomore 165-pound Armando Murillo (Rowland HS), sophomore 174-pound Stone Robledo (Villa Park HS) and freshman 197-pound Malachi Lyles (Mayfair HS).

Pereyra opened his day with a pin over Jacob Joseph of Modesto College in 2:10 and then recorded an 11-3 major decision against freshman Raul Jimenez. That advances him to the semifinals tomorrow morning against Devin Murphy of Fresno City College, where Pereyra earned an injury default decision at the CCCAA State Team Duals last month. As for De La Torre, he posted an 11-2 major decision against Will Torres of West Hills-Lemoore in his first match and followed that by pinning Salahdin Farukh of Sierra College in 5:37 in his second match. Just two wins away from a state title, De La Torre will face Wyatt Carter of Modesto College in the semifinals.

At 149 pounds, Osorio pinned Adrian Rangel of Chabot College in 2:20 in his first match and then earned a 14-2 major decision against Chase Mirelez of Modesto College in his second match. He will now square off against Aidan Hanson of Moorpark in his semifinal match on Saturday morning. Murillo, who received a bye in his first match, needed just 1:14 to pin Hector Alatorre of West Hills-Lemoore in his only action of the day. The rested Murillo will take on Sacramento City College's Jon Hernandez in the semfinals.

Robledo pinned both of his opponents, as he defeated Mojo Sarsour of Skyline College in 1:28 and only needed :13 seconds to finish off Steven Ceja of East Los Angeles College. Next up for Robledo is Fresno City College's Jake Prudek in the semifinals. Lyles defeated a pair of Northern California wrestlers, as he recorded a 10-1 major decision against Diego Hernandez of Skyline College and posted a 6-2 victory against Denzel Mabry of Sacramento City College. Next up is Joel Lopez of Shasta College in the semifinals.

Also competing for the Falcons in the consolation rounds include 157-pound freshman Trevor Thompson (Long Beach Millikan HS), 184-pound freshman Rafael Guerra (Downey HS), who escaped eliminated by pinning Andrew Hamant of Sacramento City at 9:30 of sudden victory and 285-pound freshman Kobe Pablo (Cypress HS). All are three wins away from finishing in third place.

Eliminated after the first day were 125-pound Diego Jasso (South Torrance HS), 133-pound Raul Jimenez (St. John Bosco HS) and 157-pound Cael Garriott (South Torrance HS).
