Locked in another tight defensive battle, the Cerritos College women's soccer team surrendered a goal to host Long Beach City College late in the game and dropped a 1-0 decision. The South Coast Conference loss by the Falcons drops them to 5-8-2 overall and 4-2-2 in conference play with one regular season game remaining. They will host El Camino College at 4:00 p.m. next Tuesday, which will be a battle for second place in the South Division, before finding out where they're seeded for the conference tournament, which is set to get underway next Friday.

In the loss to the Vikings (8-5-2, 5-3-0), the teams were scoreless through the first 78 minutes until Allison Rose Veloz slipped a shot past sophomore goalkeeper Anahi De Leon (Lynwood HS/East Los Angeles College) for her 18th goal of the season. De Leon, who was superb in net at times, finished the match with 11 saves.

The Falcons, who were held without a shot in the first half, got off five on goal in the second half. They missed out on two wide open chances, which would have put the team on the board first and potentially changed the outcome of the game. The team was also without the services of Meghan Legayada (Sunny Hills HS), who is tied for second on the team with three goals.

"It was a rough loss for us," said interim head coach Tessa Troglia. "Hopefully we get a chance to see them again with our full team. I like the way we have been battling."
