Posting their biggest offensive output of the season, the Cerritos College women's soccer team secured their first South Coast Conference South Division win with a 3-1 decision over visiting Compton College on Friday. The Falcons (2-8-4, 1-3-1) will look for their second win in a row when they travel to Rio Hondo College for a 4:00 p.m. conference match.

It took a little over six minutes for Cerritos to open the scoring, as Angelina Espinoza (Whittier HS) grabbed a loose ball in the 18-yard box and rolled a shot past Compton goalkeeper Leslie Chavarria for her first goal of the season. They doubled that lead in the 40th minute, as Jenna Santos (St. Joseph HS) sent a crossing pass into the box that landed on the foot of Lissette Saucedo (Huntington Park HS), who finished the play by finding the back of the net, which was also her first goal of the year.

Compton was able to strike for their lone goal of the game a minute later to cut the lead in half. However, prior to halftime, the Falcons regained their two-goal lead, as Sariah Sanchez (La Serna HS) followed up on an initial shot from Santos and scored her third goal of the year. On the play, Santos saw her initial shot hit the crossbar before landing in front of Sanchez, who finished off the play with a goal.

On the day, the Falcons outshot Compton, 26-2, with the goalkeeping tandom of Trinidad Arizmendi (El Rancho HS) and Alexis Bakalar (Los Alamitos HS) recording a shutout.
