Cerritos blows out Rio Hondo, 5-1

With things starting to gel with the Cerritos College women's soccer team, they exploded for five goals in a 5-1 South Coast Conference win over host Rio Hondo College on Tuesday. The win was the second in a row for the Falcons (3-8-4, 2-3-0), who will host East Los Angeles College at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.

The team opened up a 2-0 first half lead against the Roadrunners, with a penalty kick in the ninth minute getting things started. Freshman Jessica Arroyo (Buena Park HS) stepped up and converted the kick, while the team went into halftime adding a second goal in the 38th minute. Freshman Sariah Sanchez (La Sierra HS), who would go on and score twice on the day, received a nice feed from freshman Jenna Santos (St. Joseph HS) and capped off the play with her fourth goal of the year. The penalty kick was just the second on the year for the Falcons.

The second half belonged to freshman Ariana Rivera (Long Beach Millikan HS), who had a hand in all three goals in the final 45 minutes of the game. She scored her fifth goal of the year in the 67th minute and when the Falcons added two more goals in the next 20 minutes, she assisted on both. Rivera sent a pass to Sanchez, who finished the play with her second goal of the game in the 72nd minute, with Yasmin Cortes (Somerset HS) closing out the scoring 15 minutes later, thanks to the fine pass from Rivera.
