On Friday, the Cerritos College women's swimming team hosted their first event of the season and recorded a pair of South Coast Conference wins. The Falcons (3-1) defeated rival Long Beach City College (190-100) and Los Angeles Trade-Tech College (247-36). It marked the eighth season in a row the team defeated the crosstown rival Vikings. Next Friday, Cerritos will travel to Pasadena City College for a conference meet against the Lancers and Rio Hondo College.

The team was able to bookend the day with relay race victories, as they opened with a first place time of 2:09.71 in the 200-yard medley relay. That quartet consisted of Scarled Murillo (Lakewood HS), Valeria Barboza (Paramount HS), Sarah Orozco (Montebello HS) and Claudia Martinez (Roosevelt HS) and edged out LBCC by just under one second. In the final race, Cerritos took first and second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:15.73 to won by 11 seconds. Freshmen Desiree Estrada (Gahr HS), Andrea Macapagal (Sonora HS), Martinez and Murillo earned the win.

In individual races, Orozco - competing for the first time this season - won a pair of races, with the Falcons having three others win one race each. It was her time of 2:14.10 in the 200-yard freestyle for Orozco that barely defeated Makenna Oberst of Long Beach City, who touched up in 2:14.76. Murillo was third with a time of 2:21.45. Orozco won her second race of the day in the 500-yard freestyle, with her time of 5:56.85 ahead of Estrada, who came in second place in 6:14.46.

In the diving events, the Falcons had the only entries, which secured them extra team points. Sophomore Amanda Rabb (Gahr HS) won the 1-meter event with 143.55 points, with sophomore Ambrosia Taylor amassing 127.10 points for second place. Freshman Aliah Richardson (Paramount HS) posted 158.30 points and the lone participant in the 3-meter diving.

Barboza picked up seven team points with her win in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:18.20, which was just  ahead of Peyton Ballard (1:19.98) of LB City, while Martinez (27.50) and Macapagal (28.54) took first and second place in the 50-yard freestyle, respectively. Murillo earned the Falcons their final first place finish, as she recorded a time of 1:13.06 to win the 100-yard butterfly.

Martinez just missed out on winning the 100-yard freestyle, as her time of 1:01.92 was just shy of Oberst, who won the race in 1:01.82.
