On Friday, the Cerritos College women's swimming team split their South Coast Conference dual meet at Pasadena City College. The Falcons (4-2) suffered a 156-121 loss to the host Lancers, and recorded a 200.5-77.5 win against Rio Hondo College. Next Friday, the team will host a 12:30 p.m. conference meet against Chaffey College and East Los Angeles College.

Although the Lancers won 13 of the 15 events, the Falcons maintained the pressure all the way to the end, as they won the other two events and earned seven second place finishes. Cerritos took the top three spots in the 1000-yard freestyle, with freshman Andria Melendez (Downey HS) earning a first place time of 13:01.48, with sophomore Lucila Davies (Santa Fe HS) posting a time of 13:05.03, which was just ahead of freshman Desiree Estrada (Gahr HS), who touched up in 13:04.42 for third place.  

Cerritos also had the only entries in the diving competition and swept all of the available points. Sophomore Amanda Rabb (Gahr HS) compiled 129.15 points for first place, followed by freshmen Ambrosia Taylor (94.30) and Aliah Richardson (Paramount HS) with 92.40 points.

Freshman Valeria Barboza (Paramount HS) earned three second place finishes, as she took second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:19.44) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:57.64), while swimming a leg of the 200-yard medley relay team. That quartet consisted of freshman Channon Owens (Kennedy HS), Barboza, freshman Scarled Murillo (Lakewood HS) and sophomore Claudia Martinez (Roosevelt HS), who turned in a time of 2:09.60.

Melendez posted a second place time of 3:02.48 in the 200-yard butterfly, with Vanessa Hinojosa (Bell Gardens HS) finished in third place at 3:04.74. Estrada also earned a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (6:15.95), while swimming the first leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that recorded a second place time of 4:16.62. The quartet was compiled of Estrada, Vanessa Perez (Sonora HS), Andrea Macapagal (Sonora HS) and Martinez.
