With a chance to pull off a sweep in their final South Coast Conference dual meet of the season, the Cerritos College women's swimming team had to settle for a split. Competing at Rio Hondo College Friday morning, the Falcons posted a 187-53 win over the host Roadrunners, but came up short against Long Beach City College and suffered a 133-123 loss. The team will spend next weekend competing at the Pasadena Invitational.

Freshman Lizbeth Ramirez (Sunny Hills HS) did her job on the day, as she won three individual races and swam a leg of a relay team that took first place. The Falcons also earned five second place finishes, with freshman Carolina Medrano (Schurr HS) posting two of them while also winning a race.

In the freestyle races, Ramirez posted wins in the 50-yard (26.28), 100-yard (59.07) and 200-yard (2:11.87) races. She edged out Long Beach City's Karissa Qualley in the 200-yard race by less than a second (2:12.47) and held off LBCC's Victoria Rowe (59.33) in the 100-yard freestyle. The 400-yard freestyle relay capped off the day by turning in a first place time of 4:15.79 and consisted of freshman Joanna Porras (Warren HS), Ramirez, Medrano and freshman Nine Wathanasayhee (Los Alamitos HS). Porras also recorded a third place time in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:05.54.

Medrano posted a winning time of 1:10.93 in the 100-yard backstroke and edged out Long Beach City's Kelly Zavala, who turned in a time of 1:11.90.
