With eight players recording at least one kill, and nobody with more than seven, the Cerritos College volleyball team made quick work of visiting Santa Ana College on Wednesday. The Falcons, who recorded their second sweep in as many matches, registered a 25-16, 25-15, 25-11 win over the Dons. The team will travel to Southwestern College on Friday for a 5:00 p.m. non-conference match.

Not only did Cerritos keep rallies going with their defensive prowess, they coupled that with a superb serve that resulted in 15 aces on the night. The Falcons got stronger as the match continued and were able to pull away in all three sets to register the win.

In the first set, the Falcons scored five straight points to turn a 13-10 lead into an 18-10 advantage, which included a pair of aces from sophomore Madison Borja (La Mirada HS). The final five kills of the set came from five different players, as Cerritos showed their versatility. A 14-14 second set match became a 21-14 lead after a Falcon run that had the Dons posting a trio of attack errors, coupled with Cerritos kills from multiple players.

The Falcons pulled away in the third set after a 12-8 advantage became a 25-11 win, with freshman Jasmine Soto-Castro (Schurr HS) posting a trio of aces, with the successful approach of mixing up their offense playing a huge role. Freshman setter Leeya Rubio (Schurr HS) even got in on the action with a kill.

The tandem of Rubio and Soto-Castro combined for 31 assists, while Soto-Castro and freshman Lilliana Peterson (California HS) shared the team lead with seven kills each. Sophomores Jayda Harris-Amete (La Mirada HS) and Kira Magdaleno (Artesia HS) each finished with five kills, while freshman libero Priscilla Castillo (Schurr HS) finished with 15 digs and four service aces. Seeing her first action of the season, freshman Brisa Cortez (Schurr HS) contributed a pair of kills.
