Falcons upended in four sets against Long Beach City
Looking to make an early move in the South Coast Conference standings against #10-ranked Long Beach City College, as well as trying to avoid an 0-2 start, the Cerritos College volleyball team dropped a 15-25, 22-25, 25-23, 19-25 decision on Wednesday night. The loss was the second in a row for the Falcons (5-2, 0-2), who will host #22-ranked Pasadena City College (9-4, 2-1) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Cerritos got off to a slow start in the first set, but extended the Vikings in the second set, before coming up short. They battled back to close a gap, but came up short. The Falcons extended the match by grabbing a set and then hoped to move to a fifth set, but could not make that happen against Long Beach City.

Struggling at times with their offensive attack, the Falcons did show some success at the net, as they received a pair of solo blocks from Kaydence Portillo (Bell Gardens HS) and combined for three more blocks with assists.

Sophomore Jayda Harris-Amete (La Mirada HS) led the team with 11 kills, with freshman Jasmine Soto adding five kills and 19 digs. The duo of Portillo and sophomore Erykah Scott (Bellflower HS) each had four kills, with freshman Leeya Rubio (Schurr HS) recording 22 assists, 16 digs and three kills. Also playing well in the back row was freshman Priscilla Castillo (Schurr HS) with a team-leading 22 digs, along with four assists.
