Needing to pull off several upset wins if their post-season hopes are to remain alive, the Cerritos College volleyball team missed out on another chance on Wednesday night. The Falcons (9-7, 4-7) fell in three sets to host Pasadena City College (13-25, 17-25, 20-25) for their four defeat in a row. The team will look to get back on their winning ways on Friday at 6:00 p.m. when they host El Camino College.

It was a frustrating first set for Cerritos, who was able to draw to within 11-8, but then saw the Lancers run off 12 of the next 14 points and secure the set, 25-13. Looking to regroup, the Falcons once again found themselves behind early, 9-2 and could only string together consecutive points three times in the set. At one point, freshman Lillianna Peterson (California HS) posted a kill, followed by a pair of service aces for freshman Judit Navarro (Schurr HS). Peterson also had back-to-back kills late in the set, but the result was already determined.

Needing to win the third set in order to keep the match alive, Cerritos stayed close the majority of the way, with Peterson accounting for three of the team's five kills over one stretch. A service error by Pasadena City was followed by a service ace from Navarro to get the team to within 20-19. However, the Lancers came back by scoring five of the final six points to close out the win.

Peterson led the team with nine kills, with freshman Jasmine Soto (Schurr HS) contributing five kills and six digs. Freshman setter Leeya Rubio (Schurr HS) dished out 19 assists, with freshman Priscilla Castillo (Schurr HS) leading the back row with 12 digs.
