Continuing their upwardly mobile climb through the rankings, the #24-ranked Cerritos College volleyball team posted a four-set win over #20-ranked East Los Angeles College on Wednesday. The Falcons (8-3, 3-3) earned a tough 25-16, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23 win over the Huskies (16-4, 3-3) for their third win in a row after suffering three consecutive losses. The team will now host Los Angeles City College (0-11, 0-6) in a 6:00 p.m. conference match on Friday.

In the win, Cerritos was able to come up with the big kill late in each set to pull off the win. In the second set, with the match tied at 22-22, sophomore Jayda Harris-Amete (La Mirada HS) slammed home consecutive kills, with freshman Jasmine Soto (Schurr HS) recording the final point to give the team a 2-0 set lead.

The Huskies battled back and returned the favor by scoring the final three points in the third set after falling behind, 22-23. That put Cerritos in a must-win situation to avoid a fifth set and they came through at the right time. The Falcons led the whole way until East LA pulled ahead, 20-18. A Harris-Amete kill and Huskies error tied the match.

Once again, it was Harris-Amete, as her kill and service ace from freshman Leeya Rubio (Schurr HS) gave the Falcons a 23-21 advantage, while they were serving for match point after a Huskies attack error. East LA responded with a kill, but Soto capped off the victory with her 20th kill of the night.

Along with her team-high 20 kills, Castro also led the team with 19 digs, while Harris-Amete finished with 18 kills and eight digs. Rubio dished out a season-high 46 assists and five service aces and contributed in the back row with 16 digs, with freshman Brisa Cortez (Schurr HS) posting a season-high 11 kills. Freshman libero Priscilla Castillo (Schurr HS) added 17 digs and four assists.
