W. Water Polo: Cerritos makes quick work of El Camino

The Cerritos College women's water polo team scored early and often against El Camino College in their South Coast Conference match at the Falcon Aquatic Center, as the posted a 21-3 win on Wednesday. The win was the sixth in a row for the Falcons (19-2, 4-0), who are ranked #3 in the state. They will continue conference play next Wednesday at 3:00 p.m when they host Chaffey College.

At one point early in the game, the score was only 2-1, but the Falcons went on to outscore the Warriors 9-1 the remainder of the half to take a convincing 11-2 lead at intermission. The score allowed the entire bench to see action, although regulars Katherine Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) and Angelica Hernandez (El Rancho HS) provided the majority of the scoring. Gabayeron picked up four first quarter goals and had six by halftime before settling on seven goals, while Hernandez finished with five goals in the win.

The trio of Carla Harvey (Potomac Falls, VA HS), Jasmine Villalpando (Montebello HS) and Jasmine Medina (Pioneer HS) all dished out three assists, while sophomore Yuridia Vela (Schurr HS) contributed three goals and a team high four steals. In goal, sophomore Sharon Ku (Cerritos HS) turned away 10 shots.
