On the strength of six pins, the Cerritos College women's wrestling team recorded a 42-18 Southern California Wrestling Alliance win over visiting East Los Angeles College on Thursday night. The Falcons (5-1, 1-0) will host Mt. San Antonio College in another conference dual meet at 7:00 p.m. next Tuesday. Cerritos defeated the Mounties, 36-13 in the championship match of the 3C2A Team Dual State Championships last Saturday to capture their second championship in as many seasons.

The night opened with freshman 101-pound Rebekah Jimenez (Lawndale HS) getting a quick takedown against Jessica Villalon and after working into the right position, secured the pin with :42 seconds remaining in the first period. It was more of the same at 109 pounds with sophomore Lucy Guadarrama (Orange HS) getting in good position with a reversal against Millie Jimenez and needed 1:25 to register the win. The Falcons received a forfeit win at 116 pounds to take an 18-0 team lead.

After an East LA win at 123 pounds, freshman Isabella Sanchez (Chaparral HS) needed 2:21 to register a pin, while the Falcons secured the team win with three consecutive pins in the heavier weights. Sophomore Natalie Resendiz (El Toro HS) needed 2:33 to finish off Tabitha Mariscal, but got her down with a quick takedown before posting the win. Freshman Vida Beckel (Cypress HS) secured another early takedown at 160 pounds and needed nearly two minutes to secure the pin over Galilea Garcia. Time was not an issue for sophomore Nile Jernigan (Corona HS) at 180 pounds, as she won in just 30 seconds.
