Taking part in the Sacramento City Open on Saturday, the Cerritos College women's wrestling team had eight advance to the finals, with three coming away with championships. The Falcons will close out their Southwest Conference schedule on Wednesday when they travel to Santa Ana College for a 7:00 p.m. dual meet.

Those who came away with championships included sophomore 102-pound Jessica Hong (Western HS), sophomore 148-pound Natalie Resendiz (El Toro HS) and sophomore 180-pound Nile Jernigan (Corona HS). Hong's road to the championship required three wins, with all of them coming by way of a pin. She opened with a pin of East Los Angeles College's Jessica Villalon in 3:48 and followed that with first-period pins of Valarie Ng of Mt. San Antonio College in 1:00 and concluded with a pin in 1:07 over freshman teammate Ahome Sordo (Paramount HS). In the 148-pound weight class, Resendiz received a bye in the first round and then pinned Kyndra Olmos in 4:49 to start her day. That was followed with a pin of Andrea Espinoza of the host Panthers in 4:22 in the semifinals and concluded with a pin in 3:47 over Elizabeth Carrillo of Mt. San Antonio. Jernigan ended up just competing once and pinned Perla Camacho-Mesa of San Joaquin Delta College in 3:27. She was scheduled to take on Kaylah Harrison of Santa Rosa Junior College, but received an injury defauly victory.

Sordo, who lost to Hong at 102 pounds, finished in second place and recorded wins over Ng and Villalon along the way. At 109 pounds, sophomore Lucy Guadarrama (Orange HS) also reached the finals and had to settle for second place. She pinned Mollie Jimenez of East Los Angeles in 1:43 and pinned Lily Serrano of Sacramento City in 1:46 to advance to the finals. Taking on Tiffany Yanagi of Mt. SAC, Guadarrama was pinned in 2:46. Freshman 123-pound Denise Figueroa (Mayfair HS) also had a bye in the first round and started off by pinning Hermenia Estrada of Mt. SAC in 2:42. That sent her to the finals, where she was pinned by Delilah Felix-Lopez of East LA in 1:23.

At 160 pounds, freshman Vida Beckel (Cypress HS) pinned Sunshine Romero of Lassen College in 1:00 in her first match and registered a 19-3 technical fall over Galilea Garcia of East Los Angeles College to advance to the championship match. Her day ended with a loss by pin to Sierra Mefford of Palomar College in 4:12. The final Falcon wrestler to reach the finals was freshman 220-pound Nova Gallegos (Carson HS). A pair of quick pins over Alexandria Zia-Lopez of East LA in :44 seconds and one in :39 seconds over Madison Robinson of Fresno City sent her to the finals. Her day ended when Isaballa Calle pinned her in 1:02.
