W. Cross Country: First event results in 10th place finish

Running at Carbon Canyon Park in their first meet of the season, the Cerritos College women's cross country team finished in 10th place at the Mark Covert Invitational on Saturday. The Falcons were part of 24 programs that competed in the invitational, with 13 of them being Division I schools. They placed 10th out of non-Division I, community college and club teams. Cerritos will travel to the Fresno Invitational next Saturday, which will be held at Woodward Park, site of the CCCAA State Championships.

The first Falcon runner to complete the 5K course was freshman Vanessa Garcia (Whittier HS), whose time of 22:51.1 put her in 75th place out of the 101 runners in their category. Just :28 seconds behind her was freshman Grace Cervantes (Schurr HS), who posted an 82nd place time of 23:19.7, while sophomore Monica Bautista (El Rancho HS) finished in 85th place overall with a clocking of 24:02.7. The tandem of sophomores Jessica Ayala (Cabrilllo HS) and Debora Lopez-Guzman (Gahr HS) finished in 87th (24:07.9) and 88th (24:16.7) places, respectively. The fifth runner to complete the team scoring was freshman Aileen Dominguez (La Mirada HS), who took 90th place overall with her finishing time of 24:48.5.

Those who also competed on the day included Glenn Nance (Gardena HS; 27:35.1; 96th place), Adrianna Martinez (California HS; 27:39.4; 97th place) and Julie Chou (Cerritos HS; 30:17.0; 101st place).
