On Thursday, the Cerritos College baseball team was limited to just five hits, as they dropped a 7-1 decision to host Glendale College. The Falcons (1-2) will look to rebound at noon on Saturday when they host Los Angeles Pierce at Kincaid Field.

The team surrendered four runs in the first inning and were forced to try and battle back. Freshman starting pitcher Edgar Velasquez (Montebello HS) surrendered a three-run home run after allowing a run-scoring double, which put Cerritos in the hole early on. It could have been worse, but Velasquez was able to work out of a bases loaded jam in the second inning.

They pushed a run across in the top of the third inning, as freshman catcher Adam Rubio (Montebello HS) singled with one out. Sophomore outfielder Kevin Sainz (Valley Christian HS) was able to reach base on an error, but was thrown out at second base trying to extend the play. Rubio, who advanced to third base, came home on an RBI single by freshman shortstop Ramon Bramasco (Cathedral HS).

Cerritos got the first two runners on in the fifth inning when freshman outfielder Rolando Nichols (Serra HS) led off with a single and Rubio followed with a walk. Sainz reached on a fielder's choice, with Nichols forced out at third base on the play. But Bramasco and sophomore second baseman Derrick Edwards (Mary Star of the Sea HS) were unable to drive in a run and the threat was thwarted.

Velasquez lasted the first five innings and suffered the loss, while sophomore Carlos Hernandez (Pioneer HS) followed by pitching two innings and allowed a pair of runs on three hits. Freshman Carlos Valle (Bell Gardens HS) took over in the eighth inning and struck out one batter in his first action of the season.
