In their 7-6 South Coast Conference win over host Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday, the Cerritos College baseball team had six different players drive in runs. Not only was the one-run game their ninth of the season (5-4), it was also the first road win for the Falcons (7-11, 2-1) in 10 tries. The team will host the Mounties (7-11, 0-3) at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at Kincaid Field.

In the win, all nine starters collected at least one hit, with six different players driving in a run. But each time Cerritos scored three runs in an inning (2nd and 4th), Mt. SAC countered with a pair of runs in their half of the inning. The Falcons scored what would be the game-winning run in the top of the sixth inning.

Freshman designated hitter Christopher Gomez (South Torrance HS) led off the sixth by getting hit by a pitch and moved to second base on an infield out. Gomez moved to third base on a passed ball and came home when freshman shortstop Ramon Bramasco (Cathedral HS) singled.

Coming on in relief in the bottom of the fifth inning, sophomore Erick Velasquez (Bell Gardens HS/ECC Compton Center) went two innings and allowed two runs before sophomore Carlos Hernandez (Pioneer HS) recorded two outs in the seventh inning on a double play, which plated a run for the Mounties. Freshman Joe Pacheco (Redlands East Valley HS) tossed the final 2 1/3 innings to earn his second save in as many games. He struck out five batters, including the final three in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Falcons opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when sophomore second baseman Derrick Edwards (Mary Star of the Sea HS) singled in a run with two outs. After stealing second base, he came home on a base hit by freshman outfielder Micah Hee (Kamehameha, HI HS), and when outfielder Quinn Cotter dropped a fly ball, Hee raced around the bases to score the team's third run of the inning.

Singles by freshman first baseman Jesus Mercado (St. John Bosco HS) and Edwards were followed by another Mt. SAC error that loaded the bases to start the fourth inning. Gomez drove in a run with a base hit, while freshman third baseman Jorge Rodriguez (Bellflower HS) brought in another with a sacrifice fly. Freshman outfielder Rolando Nichols (Serra HS) added an RBI single to close out the scoring in the stanza.
