On Thursday, the Cerritos College baseball team was limited to just one hit, as they suffered a 5-0 South Coast Conference loss to host Chaffey College. The two teams will meet up at Kincaid Field at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Falcons (8-14, 3-3) trailed 4-0 after the first two innings, as the Panthers got to freshman starting pitcher Vincent Fuentes (El Rancho HS) early on. In the first inning, Fuentes allowed consecutive singles to start the game, but then induced a double play ground ball, with a run scoring. The big blow was a two-out, two-run single in the second inning by Jordan Hernandez, followed by an RBI single by Oscar Martinez.

At the plate, Cerritos couldn't get anything started against Matt Vigil. They threatened in the second inning when freshman catcher Adam Rubio (Montebello HS) reached on an error and then moved to second base on a ground out. After sophomore second baseman Derrick Edwards (Mary Star of the Sea HS) drew a walk, freshman first baseman Jesus Mercado (St. John Bosco HS) was called out on strikes, with Rubio caught stealing at third base to end the inning.

They collected their lone hit of the game in the top of the third inning when freshman outfielder Matthew Hickman (La Mirada HS) led off with a single. With one out, Hickman moved to second base on a walk and then to third on a ground out. He was stranded there when freshman third baseman Jorge Rodriguez (Bellflower HS) grounded out to end the inning.

Cerritos got the leadoff batter on base three more times in the game, and stranded Mercado at third base in the fifth inning. They did not threaten in any other innings.
