In their final game of the season, the Cerritos College baseball team came from behind to defeat host East Los Angeles College, 4-2 on Thursday. Looking to break a three-game, one-run loss skid, the Falcons (14-26, 8-14) scored three times in the top of the eighth inning to post the win. Additionally, freshman relief pitcher Edgar Velasquez (Montebello HS) tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win.

Trailing 2-1 heading into the eighth inning, freshman shortstop Ramon Bramasco (Cathedral HS) was hit by a pitch with one out. After he was cut down on a fielder's choice by sophomore second baseman Derrick Edwards (Mary Star of the Sea HS), who moved to second base on a wild pitch, freshman outfielder Rolando Nichols (Serra HS) drew a walk. That set the table for freshman first baseman Jesus Mercado (St. John Bosco HS), who drove both home with a two-out double. Freshman designated hitter Dominic Bravo (Warren HS) added an insurance run with an RBI single.

Velasquez entered the fifth inning for freshman Gilbert Romero (Alhambra HS) with two outs and the bases loaded before getting cleanup hitter Joaquin Castillo to ground a slow roller to the mound for the final out. He worked out of a jam in the seventh inning after walking a pair of batters, but Matthew Sosa popped up to Edwards for the final out in the inning. The Huskies threatened in the ninth inning with a pair of singles, but Velasquez finished off the game by getting Oscar Osorio looking on a called third strike.
