Led by the duo of freshman Amanda Loya (St. Joseph HS) and sophomore Carla Harvey (Potomac Falls, VA HS), the Cerritos College women's swimming team came in third place at the Palomar Invitational over the weekend. The Falcons, who amassed 495 team points, also saw Loya place third in the pentathlon the day before, while Harvey came in seventh place overall. The team will now swim in the East Los Angeles Pentathlon this Friday, while the divers will compete for the first time the day after.

In the pentathlon, Loya recorded a combined time of 3:11.37 for the five events and was less than a second off the first place time. She won the 50-yard butterfly in a time of 28.85, while her clocking of 34.56 in the 50-yard breaststroke was the second fastest. Loya also came in third place in the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:07.49, and posted the fifth fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle at 27.56.

As for Harvey, she won her specialty, the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 30.71, which was .38 ahead of the second place time. She also finished seventh in the 50-yard butterfly (30.33) and ninth in thr 100-yard IM (1:10.99).

In the team scoring events the following day, the Falcons finished in second place in four relay events, while the won the 350-yard backstroke with a time of 2:27.36.

In individual events, Loya won a pair of races, while Harvey won one. Loya's time of 1:12.85 win the 100-yard breaststroke, while she was closed in 2:21.47 in the 200-yard IM to barely edge second place finisher Christen Harper of Chaffey, who touched up in 2:21.53. Harvey came in third place at 2:33.13. Harvey easily won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.60, which was nine seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Also swimming well for Cerritos were freshman Stephanie Alfaro (Gahr HS), who came in third place in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:11.62, while sophomore Bianca Serrano (Cerritos HS) earned a pair of fifth place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (29.00) and 100-yard butterfly (1:14.86).
