Cerritos College freshman Amanda Loya (St. Joseph HS) was getting closer and closer to breaking the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke. On Saturday at the South Coast Conference Championships, Loya finally set the new record, as she posted a time of 1:07.55 and came in second place in the event. She topped the old record of 1:09.28, which was set in 2011 by Meghan Carbajal.

The Falcons finished the conference championships with 430 team points and came in fifth place.

In addition to her record-setting second place in the 100-yard breaststroke, Loya also came in third place in the 100-yard butterfly by posting a time of 1:01.37. In the final event of the meet, Loys was joined by sophomores Carla Harvey (Potomac Falls, VA HS), Teresa Zuniga (California HS) and Bianca Serrano (Cerritos HS) to come in fifth place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:57.43.

Harvey also earned a third place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.66, with Zuniga taking seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke by recording a time of 1:15.84. As for Serrano, she placed 12th in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:00.51.
