The Cerritos College women's swimming team scored just enough points at the Golden West Invitational to come in first place on Friday. With the team only winning one event, their volume of athletes allowed them to score in all of the races, as they finished with 791 team points. That edged out second place Golden West, who finished with 788 points, while third place Saddleback College concluded with 724 points. The Falcons will now take two weeks off before they compete in the South Coast Conference Championships, which will take place at Mt. San Antonio College.

In addition to winning one event, Cerritos posted six second place finishes, including three of their four relay teams. The day started with the quartet of Carla Harvey (Potomac Falls, VA HS), Amanda Loya (St. Joseph HS), Stephanie Alfaro (Gahr HS) and Teresa Zuniga (California HS) posting a time of 2:04.53 to hold on to second place in the 200-yard medley relay. The 400-yard medley relay team of Harvey, Zuniga, Loya and Bianca Serrano (Cerritos HS) recorded a time of 4:31.12. The same quartet posted a second place time of 1:54.15 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Loya was the team's lone first place finisher, as she posted a time of 1:09.08 to win the 100-yard backstroke, while she was clocked at 27.11 to place second on the 50-yard freestyle. Also picking up a second place finish was Zuniga in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:15.17, and she barely beat Serrano, who took third in 2:15.90. Harvey was a second place finisher in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:08.43.
