In their first South Coast Conference meet of the season, the Cerritos College women's swimming team split against their two opponents. The Falcons defeated host East Los Angeles College (178-89), while the dropped a 154-108 score to Chaffey College. This weekend, the team will travel to the Cuesta Invitational.

On the day, Cerritos won six individual races, as well as one of the two relay races. The duo of Amanda Loya (St. Joseph HS) and Carla Harvey (Potomac Falls, VA HS) each picked up three wins, while they swam legs of the 200-yard medley relay. They were joined by Teresa Zuniga (California HS) and Bianca Serrano (Cerritos HS) for their winning time of 2:03.13.

Harvey won the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 30.77, which was almost two seconds ahead of the second place finisher, while her time of 1:06.00 won the 100-yard backstroke and she touched up four seconds ahead of her closes competition. Her third win took place in the 100-yard IM, as her time of 1:09.10 edged out second place finisher Analissa Hurtado of Chaffey. who finished in 1:09.62.

As for Loya, she eared a win in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 33.74 and then came right back to win the 100-yard butterfly with a clocking of 1:04.64. She easily outdistanced teammate Stephanie Alfaro (Gahr HS), whose time of 1:12.88 put her in second place. Loya and Zuniga finished first and second in the 100-yard breaststroke, with times of 1:13.32 and 1:18.19, respectively, with Zuniga finishing just ahead of Cassandra Llanes of Chaffey by less than a second.

In the 1000-yard freestyle, Zuniga took second place with a time of 12:27.29, while Serrano was third in both the 50-yard freestyle (28.16), 100-yard freestyle (1:01.67) and 200-yard freestyle (2:15.57). Alfaro was also a third place finisher in the 50-yard butterfly at 32.52.
