The Cerritos College women's swimming team has two members competing in the CCCAA State Championships at East Los Angeles College. On Friday, the duo of freshman Amanda Loya (St. Joseph HS) and sophomore Carla Harvey (Potomac Falls, VA HS) earned the Falcons 17 team points to put them in 23rd place with one day remaining. On Saturday, Loya will swim in the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard butterfly, while Harvey will compete in the 100-yard backstroke.

Carla Harvey took 11th place at the state championships in the 50-yard backstroke In their lone events on Friday, Loya secured the team 11 points with her eighth place finish in the 200-yard IM. In the prelims, Loya posted her fastest time of the season, 2:14.11, which was seventh best and qualified her for the championship round. In that race, Loya was clocked in 2:15.28, which slipped her down to eighth place.

As for Harvey, she qualified for the state championships in the 50-yard backstroke for the second year in a row. Looking to eclipse the school record of 28.29 by Stephanie Rosaro in 2008, Harvey swam a 28.61 in the prelims to finish in 11th place and qualify for the consolation round. She entered with the 17th fastest time in the state (28.93), but improved on that time. In the consolation race, Harvey registered her personal best time of 28.57, which was good enough for 11th place overall, but just shy of the Falcon record.
