Cerritos College sophomore Alexus Dalton (Long Beach Poly HS) eclipsed her school record in points while at the Southern California Heptathlon Championships at Mt. San Antonio College. Dalton, who came in second place overall, posted 5201 points, which breaks the old record of 5129 she set in winning last year's state championship. Dalton was edged out for the overall championship by Jasmine Hall of College of the Canyons, who finished with 5243 points.

The Falcons were also represented by five other athletes in the seven-event competition. Taylor Hawkins (Narbonne HS) finished 11th out of the 18 competitors with 3278 points, while Carissa Saenz (Warren HS) placed 13th with 3157 points. Also competing were Raiven Ellis (California HS), who came in 15th place (3059 points), Danielle Tynes (Cerritos HS) with 2940 points and Sydney Batts (Long Beach Poly HS), who finished in 17th place with 2895 points.

It was a battle from start to finish with Dalton and Hall. The two of them finished next to each other in the standings in five of the seven events, with Dalton getting the advantage in all five. In fact, Dalton came in first place overall in three of the events, and Hall was in second in each of them. But the difference in determining the overall champion came in the two events that were won by Hall, the 200 meters and javelin. In those events, Dalton finished in fourth place and the points advantage acquired in each was enough to supplant Dalton for the overall title.

Dalton picked up wins in the 100-meter high hurdles (14.38; 925 points) and high jump (1.69 meters; 842 points), which are events in which she currently holds the school record. She also finished in first place in the long jump with a leap of 5.57 meters, good for 720 points. But in the 200 meters, Hall earned an 80-point advantage with her winning time of 24.81, compared to the fourth place time of 25.70 for Dalton. There was a 77-point advantage for Hall in the javelin, with her winning throw of 40.39 meters earning her 675 points. For Dalton, she turned in a fourth place distance of 36.40, which generated 598 points.

In the five events Dalton bested Hall, she earned 115 more points. But it was the 157-point advantage for Hall in the two events she beat Dalton that resulted in the overall champion.
