W. Track: Freshman wins four events in first meet

Cerritos College freshman track and field athlete Destiny Mack-Talalemotu (Long Beach Millikan HS) started her collegiate career by winning four events at the Mt. San Antonio Conference Opener on Friday. As a team, the Falcons won seven events, with six of them coming in the field events. The team will now host the Cerritos Open at 2:00 p.m on Thursday.

Mack-Talalemotu was joined by a several teammates near the top in each of the four events in which she won. In the shot put, Mack-Talalemotu posted a distance of 13.18 meters, with sophomore teammate Dorienne Ordaz (Bravo HS) in second place at 11.11 meters, while Ordaz was third in the discus with a toss of 37.73, which was shy of Mack-Talalemotu, who won the event at 43.83 meters, which puts her fifth on the college's all-time list. Freshman Catherine Borunda (El Rancho HS) finished in fourth in the discus (30.88 meters) and fifth in the shot put (9.95 meters).

It was a first-second tandem for Mack-Talaemotu and Ordaz in the hammer and javelin, while sophomore Kelly Magana (Cantwell HS) came in third place in the javelin. Mack-Talalemotu won the hammer at 44.91 meters, while Ordaz posted a toss of 44.12, while it was Mack-Talalemotu's distance of 35.53 meters that bested Ordaz and her 35.08 meters.

Freshman Marielle Owens won both the long jump (5.05 meters) and triple jump (11.39) with freshman Arielle Owens (Warren HS) in second place in both events at 4.97 meters and 10,96 meters, respectively.

In the running events, sophomore Killie King (Mayfair HS/Fullerton College) won the 200 meters with a time of 26.36, while a trio of Cerritos winners took third through fifth place in the 400 meters. Freshman Lauryn Ballard (Narbonne HS) saw her time of 1:04.47, with Alexandra Cormier (St. Anthony HS) post a fourth place time of 1:04.86. On the heels of both runners was sophomore Angelyca Osnaya-Tyson (Long Beach Poly HS) with a time of 1:04.89. Freshman Jenai Vickers (Lakewood HS) also placed third in the 100-meter HH with a time of 17.01.
