With their 77-69 non-conference win at Los Angeles Pierce College on Friday, the Cerritos College men's basketball team extended their winning streak to eight games. The last time a Falcon (13-2) team won eight games in a row was during the 2005-06 season. The team will have close to three weeks off before their next game when they travel to Antelope Valley College for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game on January 10.

In the win over the Brahmas (3-7), Cerritos opened the game by scoring the first 13 points, which included three-pointers from sophomores Tyler Payne (La Mirada HS), Brian Nebo (St. John Bosco HS) and Cristian Perez (Santa Fe HS). However, LA Pierce went on a 22-5 run over the next 9:13 to take a 22-18 lead. But Nebo connected on three consecutive three-pointers to give the Falcons a 34-30 advantage with 3:29 remaining in the first half.

Cerritos maintained the lead until Jordan Newt connected for the Brahmas and a 54-53 lead with 8:48 left in the second half. The teams traded baskets until sophomore Salvador Carlos (Downey HS/Biola University) put the Falcons in the lead, 59-58, which were followed by buckets from sophomore Anthony Lefeau (Orange Lutheran HS), Perez and Payne for a 65-58 lead Cerritos would not relinquish. They recorded 8-of-9 free throws in the final 1:21 to lock down the win, as Payne hit 5-of-6 and freshman Malik Smith (Gahr HS) converted all four of his attempts from the charity stripe.

Lefeau led the team with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Nebo posted 18 points, which including 5-of-7 from three-point range. Payne added 13 points and four assists, with Perez contributing 11 points and 10 caroms.
