Solid offensive and defensive play leads Falcons to 6-0 win
Taking on South Coast Conference opponent Los Angeles Harbor College in a 6:00 p.m. non-conference game on Tuesday, the Cerritos College men's soccer team broke open on offense and registered a 6-0 win. The victory was the first of the season for the Falcons (1-3-1), who have little time to enjoy the victory as they come back on Wednesday to host Imperial Valley College in a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game.

"It was good to get our first win and go back to playing our style of soccer," said head coach Benny Artiaga. "The guys responded really well and it was good to get a clean sheet."

Within the first 15 minutes of the match, the Falcons had already gotten on the board twice with a pair of goals in a five-minute span. Opening the scoring was freshman Miguel Gonzalez, who scored his first goal of the season on a fine assist from sophomore Kevin Meza (ASU Preparatory Academy/Northern Illinois University). Just three minutes later, Cerritos took advantage of strong defense to create more offense, as freshman Donavan chipped in his third goal of the season.

As the first half was starting to wind down, the Falcons struck again, with freshman D'Alessandro Rivera (Mater Dei HS) scoring, with sophomore Mark Cristino (Downey HS/UC Riverside) getting the helper.

Sophomore starting goalkeeper Juan Pablo Camacho (Norwalk HS) played the first 60 minutes of the game and turned over his shutout to sophomore Steven Ruiz (Cathedral HS). The two combined for three saves.

In the second half, Felipe Moreno (St. John Bosco HS) extended the lead to 4-0 with a goal in the 60th minute, while sophomore Chris Ramirez (Montebello HS/Mt. San Antonio College)  and freshman Taylor Demarais (Estancia HS) capitalized on their playing time to each score their first goals of the season in the final 10 minutes of the game.
