While with the Falcons, Ortega played in 50 games and registered 24 goals and 10 assists, which included three goals and three assists during the team's 2018 playoff run. In the team's 4-1 win over Oxnard College that sent the team to the Final Four, Ortega posted a pair of assists.
As a member of the Cal State LA team, Ortega helped them win a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournaments, while they also won two straight NCAA Division II Super Region 4 titles and advances to the Final Four. They ended their season with a record of 18-1-3 record, equaling the program record for fewest losses in a season.
Ortega was named All-American both season from the United Soccer Coaches, as he was a 1st Team choice his senior year and 3rd Team as a junior. He led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 10 goals and four assists for 24 points. He finished his Cal State LA career with 16 goals and nine assists for 41 points in 40 games played.
