M. Swimming: Wins in 10 events leads to team victory

Hosting Chaffey College in a South Coast Conference meet on Friday, the Cerritos College men's swimming team posted a 137-119 win. The victory gives the Falcons (1-2) their first win in conference action, while they will travel to Pasadena City College on Friday for a 12:30 p.m. conference meet against the Lancers and Los Angeles Trade-Tech College.

A part of four of the team's 10 first place finishes on the day, freshman Rodrigo Baca (Kennedy HS) swam the third leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team that recorded a time of 1:44.74, which was five seconds ahead of the top Chaffey squad. Joining him in the race were freshman Josh Guzman (Warren HS), sophomore Billy Catton (La Quinta HS) and freshman Kevin Eilizarraraz (Buena Park HS). Baca also picked a win in the 50-yard freestyle (22.51), 100-yard freestyle (49.60) and 100-yard butterfly (54.51).

As for Guzman, who swam the first leg of the relay team, he easily won the 100-yard backstroke by three seconds with a time of 1:00.91, while his time of 2:19.96 was almost four full seconds ahead of the field for his third win of the day. Catton earned a win in the 100-yard breaststroke, as his time of 1:07.20 was just ahead of second place Elizarraraz (1:08.52). In the 200-yard breaststroke, Catton (2:27.18) bested Elizarraraz by five seconds, as he touched up in 2:32.36. Elizarraraz did earn a win in the 200-yard freestyle with his time of 1:54.43.

Freshman Colson Morrow (Long Beach Millikan HS) was the first swimmer to finish the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:14.39, while he finished in second place in the 500-yard freestyle (5:13.02) and 1000-yard freestyle (10:51.54).
