For the first time this season, the Cerritos College men's swimming team recorded a South Coast Conference sweep in their dual meet. On Friday at Rio Hondo College, the Falcons earned wins over both the host Roadrunners (173-91) and rival Long Beach City College (161-62). The team will take the next two weeks off before competing in the South Coast Conference Championships at El Camino College.

Nine first place finishes highlighted the day for Cerritos, as both relay teams bookmarked the meet with wins. In the first event, the quartet of Josh Guzman (Warren HS), Billa Catton (La Quinta HS), Rodrigo Baca (Kennedy HS) and Kevin Elizarraraz (Buena Park HS) turned in a time of 1:45.29 in the 200-yard medley relay, with the foursome of Matt Farias (Downey HS), Brent Buchan (Kennedy HS), Catton and Colson Morrow (Long Beach Millikan HS) beating the field in the 400-yard freestyle relay with their time of 3:34.45.

In addition to swimming a leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay, Baca posted three wins in individual races. The 100-yard backstroke saw Baca record a time of 57.48, while he barely edged Long Beach City College's Josh Harvey in the 50-yard freestyle. A winning time of 22.30 was just good enough to hold off Harvey's time of 22.33. The final win of the day for Baca came in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.59.

Elizarraraz also prevented Harvey from getting a win, as he edged him in the 200-yard freestyle. Elizarraraz recorded a time of 1:54.17, with Harvey right behind at 1:54.89, while he also earned a pair of second place finishes. In the 100-yard freestyle, Elizarraraz touched up in 51.21, with teammate Brian Luque (Salazar y Herrera, Colombia) in a distant third place at 56.05, while his time of 1:13.72 in the 100-yard breaststroke was off the pace of Catton, who won the race in a time of 1:08.07.

For the second week in a row, Morrow turned in a personal best time in the 1000-yard freestyle to inch closer to the school record. He won the race with a time of 10:30.34, which is slowly getting closer to the standard of 10:26.80 set by Mark Mendoza in 2008. Morrow also picked up a win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.89, with Catton in a close second place at 2:29.93. He took second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:14.17, with Guzman in third place at 2:20,93. In the 500-yard freestyle, Guzman earned a second place finish with his clocking of 5:19.94.
