On the strength of a 193-51 win over host East Los Angeles College on Friday, the Cerritos College men's swimming team closed out their South Coast Conference dual meet schedule with a 3-3 record. After taking a week off, the Falcons will take part in the three-day South Coast Conference Championships at East LA.
Over the course of the meet, Cerritos won 12 of the 14 races, including both of the relay races. Freshman Isaiah Wright (Whittier HS) led the way with three individual first place finishes and also swam a leg on one of the relay teams that won. He turned in a winning time of 55.00 in the 100-yard freestyle, while his clocking of 2:29.19 earned him a first place in the 200-yard backstroke. Wright was joined by sophomore Max Lucero (Whittier HS) in taking the top two finishes in the 200-yard IM, as he won the race in 2:27.83, while Lucero was close behind in 2:29.36.
The trio of freshman Aiden Parra (California HS), as well as sophomores Ruben Martinez and Diego Campos (Downey HS) took the top three places in both the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke. Parra won both of the races with times of 1:10.46 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:37.48 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Martinez was a second place finisher in the 100-yard (1:13.01) and 200-yard (2:40.99), with Campos posting times of 1:13.05 in the 100-yard and 2:41.75 in the 200-yard for a pair of close third place results.
Freshmen Leo Mora and Nick Chieng (Downey HS) finished 1-2 in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-backstroke, with Mora winning both races. He turned in a time of 23.81 to win the 50-yard freestyle and 1:01.25 for first place in the 100-yard backstroke. Chieng's times of 24.23 in the 50-yard free and 1:06.09 in the 100-yard backstroke earned him second place in both, while Campos took the third place position in the 50-yard freestyle with his time of 24.80. Sophomore Johan Gaytan (Downey HS) posted first place finishes in both the 500-yard freestyle (5:27.69) and 1000-yard freestyle (11:41.73), with freshman Christian Acosta (Schurr HS) winning the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:04.98.
The foursome of Mora, Martinez, Gaytan and Chieng won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:51.70, while the final event saw Chieng, Wright, Mora and Campos turn in a winning time of 3:37.31 in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Posting second place finishes for the Falcons on the day were Gaytan in the 200-yard butterfly (2:27.95), while Lucero was second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:06.03.
