Competing in a three-way South Coast Conference meet on Friday, the Cerritos College men's swimming team posted a 141-116 win over Pasadena City, but were defeated, 187-83 by host Long Beach City College. Next Friday, the Falcons (2-3) will compete in their final conference dual before the SCC Championships and will travel to East Los Angeles College to take on the host Huskies and Rio Hondo College.
Posting the 11th best time in the 1000-yard freestyle in school history, sophomore Johan Gaytan (Downey HS) won the event on the day with a clocking of 11:21.20. He was the lone first place finisher on the day for Cerritos, who also received a trio of second place finishes.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the foursome of freshmen Nick Chieng (Downey HS), Isaiah Wright (Whittier HS), Leo Mora and sophomore Diego Campos (Downey HS) recorded a second place time of 3:27.67. Mora also finished in third place in the 100-yard freestyle with a clocking of 51.86, with Chieng right behind in fourth place at 52.18. It was Chieng who recorded a third place time of 23.24 in the 50-yard freestyle to come in third place.
The Falcons finished second through fourth place in the 200-yard butterfly and were led by sophomore Max Lucero (Whittier HS) and his second place time of 2:30.63, with Gaytan in third place at 2:31.22. Freshman Jaylen Wade (La Mirada HS) recorded the fourth place time of 2:44.97.
Freshman Ben Neppl (Long Beach Millikan HS) was a third place finisher in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:01.00, and improved on his finish in the 200-yard backstroke with his second place time of 2:33.17. On his heels in the race was Gaytan, who settled for third place in 2:33.67.
As for Ruben Martinez, who posted a third place time of 2:33.08 in the 200-yard breaststroke, with freshman Christian Acosta (Schurr HS) taking fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:10.67.
