M. Swimming: Pair of wins ends dual season with 4-2 record

On Friday, the Cerritos College men's swimming team closed out their dual meet season with wins over both Pasadena City College (157-104) and Rio Hondo College (217-19). The Falcons will now compete in the South Coast Conference Diving Championships at El Camino College on April 14-15.

On the day, Cerritos won seven of the events, including both relay races. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, it was the quartet of sophomores Sebastian Rico (Montebello HS), Dominic Hernandez (Schurr HS), Richard Montanez (Baldwin Park HS) and Abimael Anorve (Mira Costa HS) who recorded a winning time of 3:40.85, which was 19 seconds ahead of the other Falcon foursome that swam in the race. As for the 200-yard medley relay, a time of 1:47.36 was less than a second ahead of second place Pasadena City and consisted of sophomore Silvestre Chavez (Downey HS), Axel Pedroza (California HS), Kobe Hurtado (Cerritos HS) and Montanez.

Pedroza won the 100-yard breaststroke when he turned in a time of 1:08.09, which was a little over a second ahead of the second place finisher. Cerritos took the top three places in the 200-yard breaststroke, with Chavez touching up first in 2:30.21, followed by sophomore Daniel Benitez (Paramount HS) in 2:36.05 and Pedroza with a time of 2:36.75. Chavez was the winner of the 200-yard IM in 2:10.12, which was 12 seconds ahead of Benitez (2:21.35).

Also posting a win on the day was Hurtado in the 200-yard butterfly with a time off 2:06.21, while his time of 51.78 put him in second place in the 100-yard freestyle. Sophomore Allan Jimenez (Schurr HS) came up short in the 50-yard freestyle, as his time of 24.60 was right behind Joseph Ng of Pasadena City in 24.21. Sophomore Joel Rivas (Montebello HS) was the lone entry in the 1-meter diving event and compiled 110.80 points.

In each of the events the Falcons didn't come in first place, they had a second place finisher.
