In their final meet of the season, the Cerritos College men's swimming team finished in fourth place at the South Coast Conference Championships over the weekend. The Falcons, who were led by their five relay teams, compiled 288 team points.

Of the five relay races, Cerritos came in fourth place as a team in the first four, but saved their best for last when they took third place in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Diego Campos (Downey HS), Johan Gaytan (Downey HS), Max Lucero (Whittier HS) and Declan Nelson (Corona HS) posted a time of 3:34.18. They were aided in the race when host Mt. San Antonio College was disqualified for re-entering the pool before the race was completed.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Campos, Alejandro Velasco (South East HS), Timothy Robles (Schurr HS) and Nelson recorded a fourth place time of 1:34.99. It was the same foursome of Gaytan, Ruben Martinez (Western HS), Velasco and Campos that recorded a pair of fourth place results in the 200-yard medley relay (1:49.22) and 400-yard medley relay (4:40.67). The longest relay of the championships - the 800-yard freestyle relay - consisted of Gaytan, Nelson, Roman Ramos (Schurr HS) and Velasco and they turned in a fourth place time of 8:08.32.

In individual races, Campos, who was voted the team's Most Valuable Player, turned in a sixth place time of 22.33 in the 50-yard freestyle. He recorded a prelims time of 22.16, which would have put him in fifth place in the finals. He also turned in a seventh place time of 48.67 in the 100-yard freestyle. Gaytan came in eighth place in the 1650-yard freestyle with his time of 19:04.16, while his clocking of 1:04.36 put him in ninth place in the 100-yard backstroke. Right behind him in the race was Ramos, who took 10th place in 1:06.75. Ramos, along with Brandon Alcala (Warren HS), were voted the team's Most Improved Swimmers. He also finished in seventh place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 2:24.99.
