Completing a five-match road trip, the Cerritos College men's tennis team won for the second time in as many days, as they defeated Grossmont College, 8-1. The win improves the Falcons record to 5-1, as they return home to take on three-time defending team dual state champion Irvine Valley College at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. In 2016, the Lasers defeated Cerritos in the Southern California Championship match.

Playing their starting lineup in doubles play, Cerritos took a 3-0 team score lead after a trio of straight set wins. Singles saw a pair of players seeing their first action of the year and both came up with wins. The freshman doubles pair of Kent Hunter (Home Schooled) and Victor Castro (Novo Hamburgo, Brazil) earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory, with freshman Alex Prokopchuk (School 45, Ukraine) teaming with sophomore Biel Roca Carreras (Iguolada, Spain) for a 6-0, 6-2 win in the #2 doubles match. The day started with freshman Dario Rico-Altozano (Colegio Cumbre, Spain) and sophomore Kwangeun Lee (Sunny Hills HS) recording a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Making their season debut, freshmen Victor Plaza-Barnils (AESA Prep Academy, TX HS) and Shabani Kabura (Penn Foster, PA HS) won in straight sets playing in the #5 and #6 positions, respectively. Plaza-Barnils (6-0, 6-3) and Kabura (6-0, 6-1) matched the success three of the other four singles players had in their wins. At the top of the ladder, Castro posted a 6-1, 6-2 win, with Prokopchuk shutting out Kato Massai Sado, 6-0, 6-0 in the #2 match. As for Lee, he earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at #4.
