Taking on the state's final undefeated team, the Cerritos College men's tennis team easily handled visiting American River College, 9-0 on Thursday. The Falcons (21-2), who are ranked #1 in Southern California, swept five of the six singles matches and surrendered just five games in the three doubles matches combined. The team will travel to Victor Valley College tomorrow for their Western State Conference East Division finale. It will consist of two matches (1:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m.) and is a makeup from their March 22 rainout.

Against the previously undefeated Beavers (11-1), who are ranked #1 in Northern California, the Falcons took a 3-0 team score lead after doubles play and then quickly clinched the team win when sophomore Marcos Paulo Silvestre (Colégio Tiradentes of PMMG, Brazil) posted a 6-1, 6-1 win in the #6 position and freshman #1 player Kent Hunter (Home Schooled) defeated Paul Bhatia, 6-1, 6-0. Continuing to record wins, freshman Victor Castro (Novo Hamburgo, Brazil) earned a 6-4, 6-3 win in the #2 position, while freshman Alex Prokopchuk (School 45, Ukraine) registered a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

Sophomore Biel Roca Carreras (Iguolada, Spain) kept the shutout going with a 6-4, 6-2 win, while his doubles partner, sophomore Kwangeun Lee (Sunny Hills HS) fought back after losing the first set to post a 6-7(5), 6-2, 10-5 win. The two also teamed for an 8-3 doubles win, while Prokopchuk and Silvestre earned an 8-0 win. In the top doubles position, Hunter and Castro remained undefeated with their 8-2 win.
