M. Track & Field: Falcons perform well in Las Vegas

Taking on four-year competition, the Cerritos College men's track and field team performed very well at the UNLV Invitational on Saturday. The Falcons will continue to go up against four-year schools when they travel to San Diego for the Point Loma Nazarene Invitational next Saturday.

Several strong times were turned in by the runners, with sophomore Anthony Lozano (La Serna HS) leading the way. His time of 3:55.69 in the 1500 meters won his heat, while it also put his name fifth on the school's top five list. That was also the seventh best time on the day in the event. The Falcons top two hurdlers, Mackenzi Rickman (Carson HS) and Juan Ward came in second and third places, respectively, in the 110-meter HH, as they both finished in a time of 14.67. Ward also recorded a fourth place time of 54.82 in the 400-meter IH.

Freshman sprinter Virjilio Griggs (Warren, TX HS) placed fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 10.88, while Justin Reid (Lakewood HS) turned in a seventh place time of 50.40 in the 400 meters. In the triple jump, Myles Davis (Hickman) saved his best leap for last, as his distance of 13.87 won the event, with Jaime Vega (Downey HS) in third place at 13.59 meters. Sophomore thrower Matthew Seawright (Long Beach Millikan HS) finished in fourth place in the discus with a distance of 42.84 meters, while he also competed in the shot put (13.91 meters) and hammer (43.45 meters).
